Joseph Aoun to visit Baghdad next week
webangah News Agency reports that Al-Mayadeen has revealed Lebanese President Michel Aoun’s planned visit to Iraq.
The Lebanese outlet stated that President Aoun is likely to travel to Baghdad this coming Sunday, where he will meet with Iraq’s president, prime minister, and parliament speaker for consultations.
The report indicates Aoun will also hold meetings with both Islamic and Christian religious authorities during his trip.
Iraqi media outlets have not yet reacted to this news.
Last April, Nadeem Karim Majoul, chargé d’affaires at Iraq’s embassy in lebanon, delivered an official invitation from Iraqi Prime Minister mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani for President Aoun to visit. The stated purpose of the trip is strengthening bilateral relations and discussing regional and international issues of mutual interest.
The declaration follows iraqi Prime Minister al-Sudani’s recent phone call with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, after which he authorized Iraq’s Oil Ministry to supply Lebanon with fuel for six months.
