Russia downs 112 Ukrainian drones in single operation
The Russian Defense Ministry announced early Wednesday that its air defense systems had intercepted or destroyed 112 Ukrainian drones within a three-hour window, with most targeting central and southern regions of Russia, according to webangah News Agency.
A ministry statement published on Telegram stated the attacks occurred between 9 PM and midnight Moscow time.Of these, 59 drones were downed over the Bryansk region near the Ukrainian border, while the remainder were neutralized across five other locations.
The communiqué made no mention of drone interceptions near Moscow’s surrounding areas.
Separately, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported via three consecutive Telegram updates that eight Ukrainian drones en route to the Russian capital had been intercepted and destroyed.
Emergency teams are currently examining debris from these downed UAVs at crash sites, authorities confirmed.
The large-scale drone offensive signals Ukraine’s escalating strike capability against Russian territory. The focus on border zones like Bryansk likely reflects proximity to Ukrainian military bases.
The attacks coincide with Ukraine’s war entering its third year amid no visible de-escalation between combatants.
