European countries demand full Palestinian membership in the UN

Four European nations—Spain, Ireland, Slovenia, and Norway—have called for the full membership of an⁢ autonomous Palestinian state in the United Nations.

According to webangah News Agency,⁣ citing Al Jazeera,⁤ the four countries issued ⁢a joint statement urging the UN ⁢to grant Palestine full member status.

They emphasized that recognizing an independent Palestinian state is⁤ a critical step toward implementing a⁣ two-state ‍solution and achieving ⁣lasting peace in the Middle East.

The statement⁣ coincides with remarks by former Israeli⁤ Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, who earlier stated that a two-state solution with East Jerusalem as Palestine’s capital⁢ remains⁢ the only viable path to regional ⁣peace.

Germany and Switzerland demand ⁤immediate ceasefire and humanitarian access to Gaza

In separate statements on Wednesday evening, the ⁢foreign ministries⁣ of Germany and Switzerland stressed the urgent ⁤need for a ceasefire and ​unimpeded humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza.

Switzerland’s Foreign Ministry ‍expressed deep concern over Gaza’s humanitarian crisis: “We⁢ are profoundly alarmed by civilians’ unbearable suffering and demand ‌unrestricted humanitarian access.” The statement also ‌underscored intensified ‍diplomatic efforts to end hostilities and secure Israeli captives’ release.

Meanwhile, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock referenced recent attacks ⁤on a Gaza ​food distribution‍ center: “this tragedy confirms current efforts ​remain insufficient.” ⁢She added: “Immediate ⁤progress in⁣ ceasefire negotiations is imperative.”

The statements follow ⁢reports of catastrophic conditions in Gaza, with international bodies demanding swift action to‌ alleviate‌ civilian suffering.
