Leaders of PersianGulf Arab countries oppose escalating tensions with Iran
According to webangah News Agency, citing Axios, the leaders of Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar emphasized during Trump’s recent regional visit that they oppose escalating tensions and support a U.S.-Iran agreement.
Three informed sources familiar with the discussions told Axios that these Gulf leaders argued against targeting Iranian nuclear facilities and encouraged Trump to pursue a new nuclear deal with Tehran.
The report notes that while Saudi Arabia,the UAE,and other Gulf states opposed the 2015 nuclear deal (JCPOA),they are now among Washington’s most vocal supporters of diplomacy with Iran.
Saudi Crown prince Mohammed bin Salman, UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed, and Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al thani reportedly warned Trump that attacks on Iran’s nuclear sites could trigger retaliatory strikes against their countries-all three of which host U.S.military bases.
A source added that Al Thani explicitly stated Gulf nations would bear the brunt of such escalation.
Saudi and Qatari officials expressed particular concern over Israel’s alleged plans for military action against Iran. The UAE reiterated its preference for a diplomatic solution.
U.S. officials confirmed all three leaders endorsed Washington-Tehran negotiations.
