Trump Moves to Remove Syria from State Sponsors of Terrorism List
According to webangah News Agency, citing Al-Mayadeen, Thomas Barak, the US envoy for Syria, met wiht Ahmad al-Shara, the self-proclaimed governor of Syria, and stated that Donald trump plans to delist Syria as a state sponsor of terrorism.
He also stressed that Washington desires peace between Syria and “Israel.”
The US official reiterated claims that their mission in Syria is focused on combating ISIS and its elimination. He added that Washington is working to encourage trade and investment in Syria to help the country recover from sanctions.
Barak further claimed he carried a message reaffirming President Trump’s commitment to his decisions on Syria and expressing solidarity with its new leadership. He described Trump’s move to lift sanctions against Syria as a “bold decision made without preconditions or demands.”
The US envoy traveled to Syria today, Thursday-his first visit since 2012-and attended the inauguration ceremony of the American ambassador’s headquarters in damascus.
