US Special Envoy Says Russia’s NATO Expansion Concerns Are Understandable
According to webangah News agency, Keith Kellogg, the U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine, stated that Russia’s concerns regarding NATO’s eastward expansion are understandable.
In an interview with ABC News, the American official was asked whether Washington would consider meeting Moscow’s demand to halt NATO’s eastern expansion. he responded: “It’s a natural concern. We’ve said repeatedly that ukraine joining NATO is not on the table. For Ukraine to join NATO, all 32 member states must agree.”
he added: “We’re not the only ones who think this way.As you know, I could probably name four NATO member states that share our view.”
Kellogg noted he had advised Kyiv against making statements suggesting it would refuse to participate in peace talks with Russia.
“I also spoke with Rustem Umerov,Ukraine’s senior negotiator and defense minister-who will lead Kyiv’s delegation in upcoming talks in Istanbul,” he said. “I always warn him not to say anything about refusing negotiations with Russia. They need to show they’re serious about reaching a ceasefire agreement.”
Previously, former U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Ukraine would not join NATO and emphasized: “It will never happen.”
