Several ISIS members arrested in eastern Syria
According to webangah News Agency, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) reported arresting multiple members of the ISIS terrorist group in Al-Basira, located in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
The report did not specify the detainees’ roles or identities but confirmed the operation was part of counterterrorism efforts to maintain regional security.
The arrests follow an ISIS attack on May 25 targeting Al-Sabha area in eastern Deir ez-Zor.Clashes erupted between SDF forces and ISIS militants during the operation.
SDF stated this marks the third consecutive day of ISIS assaults on their checkpoints, noting a recent escalation in attacks by the terrorist group. On May 17, ISIS claimed responsibility for a May 16 attack against SDF elements in Deir ez-Zor.
Separately, on May 16, militants affiliated with Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and ISIS clashed in Palmyra’s desert near Homs in central Syria.
