Hamas’ response to US proposal unacceptable says Witkoff
According to webangah News Agency, citing Qatar’s Al Jazeera, Steve Witkoff, Donald Trump’s special envoy for Middle East affairs, announced on Saturday that Hamas had responded to the US proposal and described it as ”completely unacceptable.”
He claimed: “Pursuing this path will only lead to setbacks in negotiations.”
The US official stressed that Hamas must accept Washington’s proposed framework, stating it could serve as the basis for proximity talks set to begin next week.
Witkoff added: “This is the only way to reach an agreement on a 60-day ceasefire, during which half of living captives and half of Israeli remains would be returned.”
The envoy’s remarks come as analysts argue past experiences show Washington’s new Gaza ceasefire plan prioritizes the gradual release of Zionist captives without guarantees for implementation.
