Axios; Oman proposes regional uranium enrichment consortium
According to webangah News Agency, the US-based outlet axios, citing an American official, claimed that Oman has proposed establishing a regionally supervised uranium enrichment consortium under the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Another informed source told Axios that Washington welcomed the proposal and insists the joint consortium be built outside Iranian territory.
The report follows a white House statement on Saturday night announcing that Special Envoy Rob Malley had presented Iran with a “detailed and acceptable” proposal regarding its nuclear program, urging Tehran to accept it.
The New York Times, quoting unnamed officials, reported that the US document delivered to Iran contained concise bullet points rather than a complete draft agreement. These sources stated it also proposed forming a regional nuclear energy consortium as part of a collaborative solution in the energy sector.
The White House remarks came after Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed Oman’s Foreign Minister badr al-Busaidi had delivered Washington’s proposals during his brief visit to Tehran. In a Saturday night statement, Araghchi emphasized Iran would respond based on “principles, national interests, and the rights of its people.”
