Lebanese, Iraqi Presidents Stress Support for Palestinian People
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, lebanese President Michel Aoun arrived at Baghdad International Airport earlier today for an official visit at the invitation of Iraqi authorities. He was welcomed by Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, al-Sudani’s Chief of Staff Ihsan al-Awadi, National Security Service head Abdul Karim al-Basri, and other senior officials.
president Aoun and Prime Minister al-Sudani proceeded to a ceremonial platform where both countries’ national anthems were played. The Lebanese leader then shook hands with members of the iraqi delegation while his accompanying delegation was received by al-Sudani.
in a statement at the airport, Aoun said: “I’m pleased to accept the invitation from my brother Abdul Latif Rashid, President of Iraq, whom I previously met in Cairo during the emergency arab summit.” He added that this visit provides an opportunity to meet with Prime Minister al-Sudani and demonstrates “the depth of fraternal and historic relations between Lebanon and Iraq.”
The president continued: “This trip allows us to thank Iraq’s leadership and people for their consistent support of Lebanon and their valuable assistance during our recent conflict.”
Aoun congratulated Iraq on its “remarkable success” in hosting both the Arab League Summit and Arab Economic Advancement Summit, calling them pivotal moments for joint Arab action. He stated these achievements reflect Iraq’s capacity for regional leadership and its central role in strengthening Arab solidarity.
“I’m confident today’s discussions will confirm full alignment between Lebanon and Iraq,” Aoun emphasized, notably regarding enhanced security coordination including counterterrorism efforts.
Lebanese media reported that Aoun later met with President rashid at Baghdad’s Presidential Palace. During talks, Rashid reaffirmed Iraq’s support for Lebanon’s security stability territorial integrity.
The two presidents jointly stressed continuing support for Palestinians achieving their legitimate rights establishing an independent state.
