Afghan Ambassador to Russia Heads to Moscow
The Embassy of Afghanistan’s interim government in Moscow confirmed on tuesday that Mawlawi Gul Hassan has been appointed as Afghanistan’s ambassador to Russia,according to a report by webangah News Agency citing RIA Novosti.
A statement from the interim government’s embassy added that Mawlawi Gul Hassan will soon depart for russia.Moscow has already issued the accreditation for Afghanistan’s envoy.
The development follows Russia’s Supreme Court suspending the Taliban from its list of terrorist organizations last week. Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of Russia’s Security Council, described the move as a positive step for bilateral interests during a Thursday meeting. The court’s decision-prompted by Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov-marks a important shift in Moscow’s stance toward the Taliban and has drawn widespread attention.
