South Korea’s Opposition Leader Wins Presidential Election
South Korea’s center-left opposition leader Lee Jae-myung wins presidential election.
According to webangah News Agency,six months after the political crisis began in South Korea,the country’s opposition leader has won the presidential election.
Lee Jae-myung from the center-left camp secured victory with 51.7% of votes, defeating his conservative rival Kim Moon-soo, who received 39.3%.
The snap presidential election was held on Tuesday following December’s political turmoil when former conservative President Yoon Suk-yeol abruptly declared a state of emergency during budget disputes with parliament. Although he retracted the declaration hours later, parliament voted to impeach him.
The impeachment was rejected by Yoon and his supporters, leading to widespread street protests across the country.
