Global Media Covers Leader’s Clear Stance on Iran’s Uranium Enrichment

Reuters reports Supreme leader’s⁤ statements on ongoing nuclear talks between Tehran ⁣adn Washington on the anniversary ⁢of the Islamic Revolution founder’s passing.

According to webangah News Agency, Reuters prominently featured the Supreme Leader’s position on current indirect nuclear‍ negotiations‌ between Tehran and Washington, published on the anniversary of Imam Khomeini’s passing, founder of the Islamic revolution.

Reuters – Ayatollah Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, emphasized on Wednesday that Tehran will not abandon uranium enrichment.

In his remarks, the Leader stated, “Uranium enrichment is the cornerstone of our nuclear program, and the enemies have focused their efforts on stopping it. America’s proposal contradicts our national belief in self-sufficiency and the principle of ‘We Can.’ The arrogant and hostile U.S. leaders have repeatedly demanded that we should not have a nuclear program. Who are they to decide whether Iran enriches uranium or not?”

According to Reuters, the U.S. proposal for a new nuclear deal with Iran was relayed to Tehran via Oman on Saturday. After five rounds of negotiations, several contentious issues remain unresolved, including Iran’s insistence on domestic uranium enrichment and its refusal to transfer all enriched uranium stockpiles out of the country.

Tehran has repeatedly stressed that Iran’s nuclear program is exclusively peaceful and has dismissed Western allegations of seeking nuclear weapons as baseless.

Associated Press reported that the Supreme Leader described the U.S. proposal as “100 percent contrary to the ‘We Can’ slogan.” Quoting Ayatollah Khamenei, the news agency added: “The nuclear industry is not just about energy—that’s only one benefit. It is a foundational industry. Even if we had 100 nuclear power plants, without enrichment, it would be meaningless.”

The Washington Post also covered the Leader’s remarks, noting that he “criticized the U.S. proposal in nuclear talks.”

Earlier, U.S. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce, without addressing Washington’s contradictory positions in negotiations with Iran, stated that despite efforts to reach a new nuclear deal, the policy of “maximum pressure” against Tehran would remain in place.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump, after reports surfaced about Washington potentially allowing limited enrichment inside Iran, claimed on his social media platform Truth Social“Any potential deal with Tehran will not permit uranium enrichment.”

When pressed by a reporter about whether Trump’s statement contradicted the reported negotiations, Bruce asserted: “When it comes to U.S. policy, what matters is what Trump thinks and says. The President made it clear—there will be no uranium enrichment. If reports suggest otherwise, they are plainly wrong. The President is leading on this issue.”

Previously, a senior Iranian official told Axios that “Iran is ready to pursue a nuclear deal with the U.S. based on the idea of a regional uranium enrichment consortium, provided it operates within Iranian territory. If the consortium is inside Iran, it may be negotiable. But if it’s outside our borders, it is doomed to fail.”

Axios noted that “Iran’s response suggests it may not outright reject the U.S. proposal but could seek to negotiate its details.” The outlet first reported the specifics of the proposal on Monday.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reiterated Tehran’s clear red lines, stating: “Uranium enrichment is a scientific achievement by our scientists, and we cannot relinquish it.”
