Kremlin Confirms Crimea Bridge Blast, Denies Significant Damage

Kremlin Spokesperson Confirms explosion on Crimea Bridge, ‍Claims No Damage⁣ Occurred

webangah News Agency reports that Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed an explosion occurred on the Crimea ⁢Bridge but⁤ stated‍ it ⁢caused no damage. He accused Ukraine of attempting to attack ⁢Russian infrastructure.

Ukraine’s security service claimed responsibility for last night’s explosion on the bridge, alleging they used over‍ one ton of explosives and damaged underwater support⁤ columns.

“Yes, an explosion⁢ took place,” Peskov said. “There was no damage, and the [Crimea] bridge remains operational. Kyiv continues it’s attempts to attack infrastructure facilities.”

The ⁢Crimea Bridge‌ (also called Kerch Bridge) was constructed after Russia ‌annexed the Crimean peninsula following what moscow calls⁢ a U.S.-backed coup in Kyiv. It serves as a vital ⁣transit route for Russian forces between⁣ Crimea‍ and newly annexed territories. The structure connects Crimea to Russia’s‌ Krasnodar region via the Kerch Strait.

Russian state media reported yesterday‌ that Moscow’s Federal Security Service detained “a Ukrainian spy who built a homemade bomb under Kyiv’s orders.”

The explosion ⁢occurred ‍two days after Ukraine’s surprise attack on Russian airbases, ⁢which Kyiv claims destroyed or damaged at least 40 of Moscow’s strategic fighter jets and bombers.
