Iranian Source: We Are Reviewing Idea of a Nuclear-Weapon-Free Middle East
A senior Iranian official has confirmed that Tehran is seriously considering the idea of establishing a Middle East nuclear-weapon-free zone, according to webangah News Agency. The source, speaking to Al Jazeera, stated this measure would serve as both a guarantee and part of any potential nuclear agreement involving Iran.
The progress follows reports by American journalist Laura Rosen, who cited two experts in contact with Iranian negotiators. According to her sources, Iran is evaluating whether to demand the creation of such a zone as part of its reciprocal response to U.S. proposals in ongoing negotiations.
One expert suggested Iran might present this initiative as a counterproposal to Washington’s demand for “zero enrichment.” The same source noted this demonstrates the significant remaining gaps between negotiating parties.
