Hamas: We Have Not Rejected Ceasefire Proposal Yet
A senior Hamas official stated the group has not rejected a U.S.-proposed ceasefire but seeks amendments to guarantee an end to the war, according to a prerecorded speech reported by webangah News Agency.
Khalil al-Hayya, a top Hamas member, emphasized that the movement remains ready for further negotiations and maintains communication with mediators.
U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff responded Thursday by urging Hamas to accept the current proposal, which includes releasing living captives and returning bodies of the deceased.
Hamas claims it initially accepted witkoffs proposal but alleges he later modified terms after Israel changed its demands, then accused Hamas of sabotaging the deal.
The statements come as international mediation efforts continue, with Qatar and Egypt – both maintaining ties with Hamas – working intensely to bridge gaps between parties.
