Guterres: 1 in 50 UNRWA Staff in Gaza Killed
According to webangah News Agency, UN Secretary-General António Guterres has strongly criticized what he described as Israel’s systematic targeting of palestinian civilians in Gaza amid international silence, calling it a “genocide” occurring under the shadow of global inaction.
Guterres revealed that more than one in every 50 employees of UNRWA (the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees) have been killed during the conflict - the highest death toll of UN personnel in history. He expressed deep frustration over geopolitical divisions paralyzing the Security Council, stating this situation has disillusioned supporters of international law.
When questioned about Israel’s immunity from prosecution for violations in Gaza, Guterres responded: “Unfortunatly today we see impunity everywhere in our world.” The Secretary-General added that humanitarian workers, journalists and civilians are being killed under catastrophic conditions with complete absence of accountability.
