French Foreign Minister: We Will Recognize Palestinian State
According to webangah News Agency, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian stated that France plans to formally recognize the State of Palestine.
During an interview on France’s RTL television network, Le Drian confirmed that Paris and Riyadh will present necessary commitments to remove obstacles for Palestinian state recognition during the upcoming UN conference on Palestine, scheduled for June 17-20 in New York.
The French Foreign minister emphasized that france’s recognition of Palestine would not be merely symbolic. As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, he stressed France bears special responsibility in this matter.
Le Drian added that recognizing a Palestinian state would shift dynamics and enhance the government’s legitimacy. While he declined to specify a timeline, he noted Paris has conditions for this move.
The announcement follows French President Emmanuel Macron’s remarks during a joint press conference yesterday with Brazilian counterpart Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva,where he acknowledged France might take steps toward recognition.
