Rafael Grossi’s New Claim: Safeguards Issues in Iran’s Nuclear Program Remain Unresolved
webangah News Agency reports that Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), stated during the opening of the IAEA Board of Governors’ quarterly meeting that “unresolved safeguards issues persist” regarding Iran’s nuclear activities. In a social media post on X, Grossi emphasized: “Over recent months, I’ve worked intensively with both iran and the United States to support their negotiations. Last week, I visited Cairo and met with the foreign ministers of Egypt and iran, as well as Egypt’s president.”
Grossi asserted that the IAEA plays a critical role in verifying any new agreement but stressed: “We remain engaged [with Iran], yet outstanding safeguards issues endure. iran must promptly provide credible technical answers to clarify undeclared nuclear materials and activities.”
The IAEA Board of Governors meeting commenced moments ago in vienna with representatives from all 35 member states attending. Discussions through Friday will cover nuclear safety, safeguards agreement implementation, and the agency’s scientific research programs.
The 35-member Board convenes five times annually-in March and June, twice in September (before and after the general Conference), and December.
