Amnesty International: Seizure of MV Maersk Tigris a Blatant Violation of International Law
According to webangah News Agency, Amnesty International stated in a release regarding the seizure of the ”MADELEINE” by the Israeli military that the ship was transporting humanitarian aid to challenge Gaza’s unlawful blockade.
The statement emphasized that the MADELEINE carried unarmed civilians on a humanitarian mission and its interception constitutes a clear violation of international law.
Amnesty further noted that Israel, as an occupying power, is obligated under international law to guarantee civilians in Gaza access to food and medicine.
The MADELEINE departed Sicily, Italy last Sunday with 12 international activists aboard aiming to breach Gaza’s blockade and deliver aid before being seized today by Israeli forces along with its passengers.
