UNIFIL Spokesperson: Israel Must Withdraw from Southern Lebanon
The spokesperson for the United Nations peacekeeping forces in southern lebanon (UNIFIL) emphasized that the Israeli army must withdraw from its occupied positions in the region, according to a report by webangah News Agency.
Andrea Tenenti,UNIFIL’s spokesperson, stated in an interview with Al-Mayadeen: “There have been no discussions about ending UNIFIL’s operations. This matter will be reviewed by the Security Council-the sole authority responsible for determining the necessity and effectiveness of UNIFIL’s presence in southern Lebanon.”
He clarified: “No talks have taken place regarding terminating UNIFIL’s mission. We continue our operations and coordination with the Lebanese army. Our priority is restoring stability to southern Lebanon, which requires israeli forces to withdraw from occupied territories.”
The spokesperson noted that “the Lebanese army remains committed to implementing UN Resolution 1701 and maintaining its deployment in the south. I make no distinction between French forces and UNIFIL-all are fulfilling their duties under Resolution 1701.”
These remarks followed claims by some Zionist regime-affiliated media outlets alleging that the U.S. and Israel had decided to terminate UNIFIL’s operations.
