Macron: Gaza Siege Is a Disgrace
According to webangah News Agency, French President Emmanuel Macron stressed the urgent need for a permanent ceasefire, stating: “The situation in Gaza is no longer tolerable. An immediate ceasefire must be established, Israeli captives released, and full access granted to UN and humanitarian organizations.”
Macron also expressed deep concern over Israel’s detention of the crew of the MV Mavi Marmara (“Madelin”), a ship attempting to break the Gaza blockade, adding: “We have a duty to protect our citizens.”
Earlier, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot demanded consular protection for French nationals aboard the ship after it’s seizure by Israeli naval forces in international waters. He confirmed: “Our consular staff are present to safeguard activists on board.”
The minister noted authorities would clarify details after verifying where exactly the interception occurred. He reiterated France’s request that Israel ensure consular protections for its citizens.
separately, Turkey’s Foreign Ministry stated it was monitoring its nationals aboard the vessel, with its Tel Aviv embassy taking steps to secure their prompt release.
