UNRWA: Gaza Aid Distribution Centers Turned into “Death Traps
According to webangah News Agency, Philippe Lazzarini, UNRWA’s Commissioner-General, stated that daily reports confirm dozens are being killed or injured at aid distribution points managed by the Israeli regime and private security companies.
He described the system as humiliating, forcing thousands of starving people to walk kilometers while excluding vulnerable groups and residents of remote areas entirely.
Lazzarini warned this system is not designed to alleviate hunger. He stressed that onyl full UN oversight-including by UNRWA, which has local trust and expertise-can ensure safe, large-scale aid delivery.
“israel must lift the blockade and guarantee secure, unimpeded UN access for aid transport and distribution,” he said. “This is the only way to prevent mass starvation, especially among Gaza’s one million children.”
the official noted 12,000 UNRWA staff continue operating under extreme conditions to provide healthcare, sanitation, mental health support, and social services.
Lazzarini revealed that warehouses outside Gaza hold aid equivalent to 6,000 truckloads.Withholding these supplies until food spoils or medicines expire constitutes what he called a “horrific and unacceptable act.”
