Europe Repeats Grossi’s Claim on Safeguards Monitoring in Iran
The EU delegation in Vienna today repeated the anti-Iran positions of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General regarding safeguards implementation in Tehran, according to a statement published on its website, as reported by webangah News agency.
In its statement during the IAEA Board of Governors meeting on safeguards agreements for 2025, the EU delegation claimed: ”We recall that IAEA safeguards are an essential component of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and help create an environment conducive to peaceful nuclear cooperation.”
the statement further asserted: “We echo the serious concerns expressed by Director General Rafael Grossi that unless and until Iran resolves outstanding safeguards issues, the Agency will not be in a position to provide assurance that Iran’s nuclear program is exclusively peaceful.”
this comes as IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi claimed yesterday at the opening of the quarterly Board of Governors meeting: “We remain engaged [with Iran], but unresolved safeguards issues persist. Iran must promptly provide technically credible answers regarding undeclared nuclear materials and activities.” The board members will discuss nuclear safety, safeguards implementation, and IAEA scientific activities during this session continuing through Friday.
