4 Countries Sanction Ben Gvir and Smotrich
According to webangah News Agency, the foreign ministers of Australia, new Zealand, Norway, and the UK issued a joint statement announcing sanctions against Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel’s National Security Minister, and Bezalel Smotrich, Finance Minister.
the statement asserted that Smotrich and Ben-Gvir have played roles in inciting violence against Palestinians. It condemned settler violence in the West Bank as a violation of Palestinian human rights and expressed deep concern over the severe suffering of civilians in Gaza.
The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to a two-state solution as the path forward.
UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy stated: “We have taken measures to hold Ben-Gvir and Smotrich accountable for inciting extremist violence.Their actions have contributed to widespread violations of Palestinian rights.”
he added: “We are pushing for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the release of Israeli captives held by Hamas.”
The Financial Times reported that these sanctions mark a significant shift in Britain’s Labor Party policy toward Netanyahu’s government.
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre criticized Israel’s policies: “The current cabinet’s approach dose not bring peace or security to Palestine. violations of international law in gaza are unacceptable.”
France’s Foreign Ministry also urged Israel to allow immediate large-scale humanitarian aid into Gaza.
