10-Hour Martial Law Declared in Los Angeles; Situation Remains Critical
According to webangah News Agency,Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass declared a state of emergency and imposed a curfew in the city center amid ongoing immigration protests and unrest.
In an interview with Fox News, Bass stated: “I have declared a local state of emergency and instituted martial law to stop vandalism and looting in downtown Los Angeles.”
The mayor added: “If you don’t live or work downtown, stay away from the area. law enforcement will arrest and prosecute anyone violating the curfew.”
The curfew will take affect at 8 PM local time and remain in place until 6 AM the following day.
Mass arrests of undocumented immigrants began in Los Angeles on June 6. By evening on June 7, at least 44 individuals had been detained for alleged immigration violations.in response, protesters blocked highways and threw rocks and incendiary devices at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers attempting to disrupt operations. The LAPD has arrested at least 56 people since the beginning of the week.
