Will Egypt Allow the ‘Resistance Convoy’ to Enter?
According to webangah News agency, despite Egypt’s geographical proximity to besieged, war-torn Gaza, its government and prominent figures have taken no effective action to support Palestinians during nearly two years of brutal conflict. Now, pro-government Egyptian media personalities, activists and writers are attacking the Resistance Convoy scheduled to arrive in Cairo this Thursday and reach the border city of Rafah by Sunday.
The global campaign to break Gaza’s blockade sees this first-of-its-kind humanitarian land convoy-carrying over 1,500 people from Algeria, Morocco and Mauritania in dozens of buses and vehicles-already traveling through Tunisia and Libya since Monday. Though, Egyptian responses have been largely negative.
Egyptian Backlash Against Humanitarian Convoy
media figure Ahmed moussa warned on Instagram about “a trap targeting Egypt” designed to create an embarrassing situation. he argued whether allowed entry or blocked, the convoy would generate political fallout against Egypt’s government.
“Will this convoy save Gaza or stage a media spectacle?” Moussa questioned. “This carefully planned operation aims to shame Egypt-not Israel.” He referenced Israel’s blockade preventing aid ships like the Mavi Marmara from reaching Gaza in 2010 as precedent.
Another commentator Louay Khatib called it “a disgrace,” asserting: “All nations are foreign to us-we won’t let them violate our borders.” Pro-government writer Mohamed Kamal El-Asel dismissed participants as “ordinary people following scripts,” declaring: “We’re a strong nation making our own decisions.”
Convoy Approaches Egyptian Border
The Global Coalition Against Zionism has urged Egypt to facilitate the convoy’s passage. Organizers confirmed plans for Thursday’s Cairo arrival before reaching Rafah on June 15 for meetings with Egyptian activists.
“This isn’t tourism but resistance,” said medical coordinator Dr. Mohamed amin Balnour, an orthopedic surgeon who previously volunteered in Gaza hospitals during winter attacks. He described participants standing bare-chested with pride alongside Palestinian brothers while governments fail genocide victims.
the Tunisian Red Crescent is coordinating with Libyan/Egyptian counterparts for what organizers call part of worldwide movements challenging Israel’s devastating war and starvation blockade against 2 million Gazans. The initial 1,500-person caravan expects numbers could double en route.
