US Troops Deployed in Los Angeles More Than in Iraq and Syria
According to a report by webangah News Agency, ABC News revealed that the number of US security forces currently stationed in Los Angeles exceeds those deployed in Iraq and Syria combined.
The report states that approximately 4,800 security personnel are now positioned across Los Angeles, compared to 2,500 troops in Iraq and 1,500 in Syria.
The Washington Post separately reported that US authorities have spent nearly $134 million over 60 days on suppressing protests in Los Angeles.A Pentagon financial official estimated the total protest suppression costs would reach this figure.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass declared a local state of emergency and instituted martial law downtown amid ongoing immigration-related unrest. In an interview with Fox News, she stated: “I’ve implemented these measures to stop vandalism and looting. Those violating curfew will face arrest and prosecution.”
The mayor warned residents: “If you don’t live or work downtown,stay away.” The nightly curfew runs from 8 PM to 6 AM local time.
Mass arrests of undocumented immigrants began June 6th, with at least 44 detained for immigration violations by June 7th evening. Protesters blocked highways and threw incendiary devices at federal immigration agents. LAPD has arrested at least 56 individuals as the start of the week.
