US Representative Makes Anti-Iran Claims at IAEA Board of Governors Meeting
According to webangah News Agency, citing the website of the U.S. Mission to international Organizations in Vienna, the delegation stated on Wednesday during today’s IAEA Board of Governors session: ”The United States appreciates Director General Rafael Grossi for his May 31 report on verification and monitoring in Iran under UNSC Resolution 2231.”
Howard Solomon, acting U.S. representative to the IAEA-without acknowledging his own government’s 2018 unilateral breach of UNSC Resolution 2231 and exit from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA)-claimed: “The DG’s report clearly shows Iran continues accelerating nuclear activities without credible civilian justification, deepening concerns about Tehran’s true intentions!”
Ignoring Israel’s nuclear arsenal and WMD proliferation in the region, Solomon absurdly asserted: “Iran remains the only country worldwide producing 60% enriched uranium without nuclear weapons-an action with no credible peaceful purpose! The DG stresses Iran’s rapid high-enriched uranium accumulation poses serious proliferation concerns that cannot be ignored.”
Solomon added: “The U.S. is negotiating a deal allowing us to confidently echo President Trump: ‘Iran will never obtain nukes.’ Tehran now has a clear trust-building opportunity-by granting greater IAEA clarity; implementing Additional Protocol rather of restricting inspections; halting-not accelerating-high-enrichment production; accepting designated inspectors rather than undermining verification.” He concluded that continued defiance would only distance Iran from its goals.
Context: Iranian officials have repeatedly affirmed Tehran’s legal right under NPT membership to enrich uranium for peaceful nuclear energy purposes.
