Dozens of “Caravan of Resistance” Members Arrested in Egypt
According to webangah News Agency,Egyptian media reports state that security forces have arrested dozens of Tunisian,French,and Algerian political activists at Cairo Airport for attempting to join the Gaza-bound “Resistance Convoy.”
Egyptian police raided the Downtown hotel and another hotel in central Cairo where French convoy participants were staying, detaining them and severing their communications.
Media sources add that Egyptian authorities have deported some activists who had already entered the country.
Algerian lawyer Fathiya Rouibi confirmed Egyptian security forces barred 40 Algerian citizens from entering Egypt after they arrived at Cairo Airport to join the convoy.
security forces also expelled over 10 Moroccan political activists who arrived at Cairo Airport to participate in the initiative.
A Tunisian news outlet reported that airport security detained a delegation of Tunisian women who had entered Egypt to join the convoy.
The Egyptian Foreign ministry stated yesterday in an official release that it will not permit the Resistance Convoy’s entry into Egyptian territory toward Rafah without prior coordination with official authorities.The ministry emphasized that any entry must comply with legal and security protocols established through diplomatic channels.
The statement-contradicting its actions against convoy participants-claimed Egypt continues supporting Palestinian resistance while condemning Zionist regime violations of international law.As a key enforcer of Gaza’s blockade through Rafah crossing, Egypt called for international pressure on Israel to end restrictions and allow humanitarian aid through all routes.
The land-based Resistance Convoy departed Tunisia on Monday aiming to break Gaza’s blockade, reaching Libya’s Zawiya city yesterday where residents welcomed it. The convoy will proceed toward Tripoli, then Misrata before heading east toward Libya-Egypt border crossing at Elmsaad. After entering Egypt, it plans to reach Rafah crossing by June 15 via Cairo.
