IAEA’s Lost Credibility: When Technical Missions Become Pawns in Western Political Games

The resolution issued today by the IAEA Board of Governors against Iran is not⁣ a technical measure but a clear sign of its deviation from‍ impartiality toward becoming an actor in the West’s high-stakes political calculations.

webangah News Agency, International Desk, Hassan Shokouhinass: On Thursday, June 12, a resolution proposed by three European countries ⁢(France, the UK, and⁢ Germany) with U.S. backing against Iran’s peaceful nuclear program was adopted during ⁢a meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors.

The resolution-passed with 19 votes in favor, 11 abstentions,⁤ and 3 against-accuses Tehran‌ of non-compliance with safeguards ⁢obligations without ⁤acknowledging Iran’s consistent and extensive cooperation with the IAEA. ⁢The document also repeats politically motivated claims rooted in fabricated documents from the Zionist regime, alleging that as 2019, Iran ⁣has failed to cooperate fully and promptly regarding “undeclared nuclear materials and activities at several locations.”

The text further⁣ asserts that the IAEA’s inability to verify the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program could fall under UN Security Council jurisdiction.

The IAEA's Eroded Credibility: When‌ Technical Mandates Become Pawns in Western Political‌ Games

U.S. and ⁣European Allies’‍ political Agenda Despite Iran’s Constructive Cooperation

Iran’s close collaboration with the⁤ IAEA in recent years-particularly during JCPOA implementation-is undeniable. By 2015⁣ (when JCPOA was signed), all allegations against Iran had ‌been resolved. subsequently, 15 IAEA reports confirmed Tehran’s compliance, raising no objections or issues.

This continued until whispers of U.S. ⁤withdrawal ⁤materialized in 2018. In response to Washington’s exit from JCPOA under Trump-the primary cause for its collapse-Iran pursued a “strategic patience” policy for over a year before gradually scaling back commitments.

“despite providing requested ⁢access,” four resolutions have targeted Tehran since Trump abandoned JCPOA. Russia’s ⁣senior Vienna diplomat‌ Mikhail Ulyanov criticized this pattern during Thursday’s session: “The Secretariat hasn’t even bothered⁢ presenting accurate verification data on Iran.” He noted that last year alone saw “125 inspectors active across Iranian ⁣sites conducting 493 inspections alongside extensive field work.”

“iran ranks second among member ‍states for inspection frequency without any decline recorded,” he added.

Analysts argue Western ‍powers exploit technical ambiguities around sites like Turquzabad/Lavizan as pretexts for‌ pressuring Tehran‌ internationally while disregarding its ⁤goodwill gestures including indirect‍ talks.

Their ultimate goal ‍appears structural realignment favoring Western‍ interests rather than ⁤resolving disputes sustainably.
