Italy: No Signs of Imminent Israeli Attack on Iran
webangah News Agency reports, citing Reuters via Mehr News Agency, that Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani stated on Thursday his country sees no signs of an impending Israeli attack on Iran.
Speaking at a joint press conference with German counterpart Annalena Baerbock, Tajani told reporters: “I don’t know whether Israel will attack Iran or not. we have no indication an attack will occur in the very near future – accept for what the Americans have done.”
The remarks follow U.S. President Donald trump’s Wednesday announcement that American forces would withdraw from the Middle East as the region “could become very dangerous.” Trump reiterated Washington would not allow iran too obtain nuclear weapons.
A senior Italian official familiar with the matter confirmed Rome has no plans to reduce staff at its embassy in Iraq or other Middle Eastern countries.
Meanwhile, Germany’s Baerbock stressed Berlin “will not tolerate” Iranian nuclear armament. Standing alongside Tajani, she stated: “Everyone wants to prevent any escalation of tensions. We cannot sit idly by and watch Iran arm itself with nuclear weapons – this position must be absolutely clear under current circumstances.”
