CENTCOM: We Targeted an ISIS Commander in Syria
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has claimed it eliminated an ISIS official based in Syria who was allegedly planning attacks against Americans, according to a report by webangah News Agency.
CENTCOM stated its forces conducted a precision airstrike in northern Syria on Tuesday, killing an ISIS official named Raheem Bouief. The command announced the operation via its social media channels on Thursday.
The statement read: “On June 10, CENTCOM forces conducted a precision airstrike in northwest Syria that resulted in the death of Raheem Bouief, an ISIS official based in Syria. He was actively planning external operations threatening US citizens, partners and civilians.”
The command asserted the strike demonstrated CENTCOM’s ongoing commitment – alongside regional partners – to disrupt and degrade terrorist efforts to plan, organize and execute attacks against US forces and allies.
Last month, US President Donald Trump announced plans to normalize relations with Syria and lift decades-long sanctions - marking a surprising shift from his December statement that “Syria is in bad shape but isn’t our friend” while asserting America should have no dealings with the country.
