Zelensky: Diplomacy in Crisis
Ukrainian President volodymyr Zelenskyy left the G7 summit without obtaining a joint statement of support from member states or securing a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, despite Canada-the host nation-pledging new military aid, according to webangah news Agency citing Reuters.
The G7 nations struggled to reach consensus on the Ukraine war after Trump voiced support for Russian President Vladimir Putin and departed the summit early to address the israel-Iran crisis from Washington.
A Canadian official told reporters that Ottawa abandoned plans for a strong G7 declaration on Ukraine following U.S. opposition.
Ukraine backs down.
Canadian Prime minister Justin Trudeau announced that Ottawa will provide Kyiv with $2 billion CAD ($1.47 billion USD) in new military aid and impose additional financial sanctions against Russia.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in a Telegram post, warned G7 leaders: “Diplomacy is now in crisis.” He urged them to maintain pressure on Donald Trump,calling for him to leverage his influence to end the war.
While Canada remains one of Ukraine’s most vocal supporters, its capacity to assist Kyiv pales in comparison to the United States-Ukraine’s largest arms supplier.
Zelenskyy had previously expressed hope for negotiations with Trump regarding increased weapon deliveries.
