Contentious Congress Hearing on US Attack; Trump’s Claim Defies Logic
According to webangah News Agency,Trump administration officials met with Congress members in a classified briefing yesterday-even as they continued dismissing reports of limited impact from U.S.strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
Senator Chris Murphy, a Democratic member of the Senate Intelligence Commitee, told reporters after the closed-door session: “Officials provided no new evidence suggesting Iran’s nuclear program has been ‘destroyed.'”
He emphasized: “At best, we may have delayed Iran’s nuclear progress by a few months.”
Senior U.S. lawmakers have raised doubts about the Trump administration’s claims regarding the complete destruction of Iran’s nuclear program, calling for more thorough assessments.
One senator present at the briefing stated: “There’s no doubt the program has been damaged, but claiming its total destruction defies logic.”
Senator Murphy criticized the absence of the U.S. Director of National Intelligence from the briefing, calling it indicative of the Trump administration’s lack of clarity.
Senator Mark Warner, a senior Democratic lawmaker, warned that the administration may have acted hastily in assessing the attack’s impact: “We still need comprehensive evaluations to understand the true scale of damage.”
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer accused the Trump administration of lacking “any coherent strategy or plan to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.”
