Controversial Congress hearing on US attack; Trump’s claim defies logic
According to webangah News Agency, Trump administration officials met with congress members in a classified briefing yesterday while continuing to dismiss reports about the limited impact of U.S. strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
Senator Chris Murphy, a Democratic member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, told reporters after the closed-door session: “The administration provided no new evidence showing Iran’s nuclear program has been ‘destroyed.'”
The Connecticut senator stated: ”At best, we’ve likely delayed Iran’s nuclear program by a few months.”
Citing classification restrictions, Murphy added: “Ther’s no question we’ve damaged this program, but claims of its complete destruction simply don’t add up.” He criticized the absence of the director of National Intelligence as evidence of the administration’s lack of openness.
Senior democratic Senator Mark Warner warned the administration may have rushed its damage assessment: “We still need thorough evaluations to understand the true scale of impact.”
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer accused the White House of lacking “any coherent strategy to prevent Iranian nuclear weapons development,” while Senator Richard Blumenthal called claims about Iran’s program being “destroyed” an exaggerated characterization requiring more precise assessments.
The remarks follow intelligence-sourced media reports suggesting U.S. strikes only partially damaged Iranian nuclear facilities – claims repeatedly dismissed by Trump officials without providing counterevidence.
