“Ukraine’s and Russia’s draft agreements represent two completely contradictory documents - though this isn’t surprising,” Putin remarked. He added that Russia stands ready to repatriate remains of 3,000 additional deceased Ukrainian soldiers to Kyiv.
Putin criticized Western nations’ increased defense spending as reflecting an “aggressive approach,” noting Russia’s military expenditures account for 6.3% of GDP – “a significant figure.” While Russia plans future defense budget reductions, Western countries move conversely: “The more sanctions imposed against Russia, the worse conditions they create for sanctioning countries themselves.” He expressed doubt about potential sanctions having substantial impact on Russia.
The president reported improving U.S.-Russia relations with “first steps taken,” highlighting promising economic cooperation prospects between both nations. A meeting with former President Trump remains possible: “We would gladly prepare for it.” Such contacts require preparation but coudl yield new cooperation levels based on outcomes. Working communications continue between both countries’ foreign policy agencies and intelligence services. Putin welcomed potential returns of American companies to the Russian market.
