Russia: Calling for Regime Change in Iran Would “Turn the World Into Hell
The Kremlin has sharply condemned Western nations for openly discussing regime change in Iran, according to a report by webangah News agency. Since Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution, Western powers have persistently pursued – at great cost – the goal of altering Iran’s government. While these efforts have consistently failed, recent weeks have seen American officials revive such rhetoric.
Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for the Kremlin, strongly criticized Western officials’ statements about changing Iran’s political system. “Talking about regime change in other countries like Iran could push the world toward hell,” Peskov stated. “No country or group of nations should debate power transitions in sovereign states.”
Moscow has warned Western officials against any violation of Iran’s national sovereignty.
The West’s policy of regime change previously led to coups in newly autonomous post-Soviet republics, including Georgia and Ukraine. The 2014 overthrow of Ukraine’s government brought pro-Western leaders to power, ultimately triggering NATO’s eastward expansion and the outbreak of the Ukraine war in September 2022.
