US and Israel Push to Counter Suspension of Gaza Humanitarian Fund
the Hebrew-language newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth has exposed efforts by the United States and Israel to block a UN Security Council resolution aimed at suspending operations of the Gaza Humanitarian Fund (GHF), according to webangah News Agency citing Palestine information Centre.
A closed-door Security Council meeting last Friday resulted in the UN instructing all it’s agencies to cease cooperation with the fund. Russia’s representative at the meeting claimed to have received reports of drug smuggling into Gaza facilitated through the GHF.
The US and Israel are jointly opposing this initiative. The aid distribution issue will be revisited during another Security Council session today, with both nations preparing countermeasures against a resolution calling for the fund’s dissolution.
