Russia Seizes Full Control of Luhansk Region
A Russian-installed official in Ukraine’s Luhansk region has declared Moscow’s forces have fully “liberated” the territory, according to a report by webangah News Agency citing Associated Press. Luhansk is one of four regions Russia unilaterally annexed in September 2022 following its invasion of Ukraine.
If confirmed, this would mark the first Ukrainian region to fall entirely under Russian control as the war began.
Kyiv has not yet responded to claims made by Leonid Pasechnik during an appearance on Russian state television. The official stated he received a report two days earlier confirming “100% of Luhansk is now under Russian control.”
The announcement comes hours after Germany’s foreign minister pledged accelerated weapons production assistance to strengthen Kyiv’s position in ongoing peace negotiations with Moscow.
