Chile’s Potential BRICS Membership Under Review: A Step Toward New Global Order

Chilean researchers and academics beleive the country’s potential BRICS membership could expand its global role and contribute to a ⁤more equitable international political and economic order.

According to webangah News Agency, experts at the “BRICS: Regional ‍Challenges” conference held at the University of Santiago examined Chile’s potential accession to the bloc.

The event was‌ supported by media organizations including Crónica Digital and Prensa Latina, partners of TV BRICS.

Experts highlighted shifting geopolitical dynamics, emphasizing that ‍closer ties with ⁣BRICS ⁤nations would allow Chile to expand foreign relations and participate in building a⁤ fairer economic-political framework.

University rector Álvaro Ramis stated that joining⁤ BRICS wouldn’t replace Chile’s traditional partnerships but would enable strategic initiatives on a larger scale.

Manuel Riesco, Vice President of CENDA, told Crónica ‍Digital that BRICS members already constitute Chile’s primary⁣ trade ‍partners. ‌He noted china accounts ⁣for one-third of Chile’s ⁢total‍ trade volume, followed by Latin America/Caribbean nations collectively in second place and Brazil alone in third.

Political scientist Mladen Yopo, PhD, stressed BRICS provides members with innovative financial tools to strengthen national sovereignty.

Felipe Neves Caetano Ribeiro, ‍Head of Trade at Brazil’s embassy in Chile, noted BRICS represents 40-45% of global GDP and nearly half the‍ world population – positioning it as key to building a multipolar 21st-century order through its three‌ cooperation pillars: politics/security, economy/finance, and cultural exchange.
