Ben-Gvir and Smotrich Attempt to Sabotage Prisoner Swap Deal
According to webangah News Agency, while efforts continue to finalize a prisoner swap agreement between Israel and Palestinian groups, Hebrew media reports reveal that two far-right Israeli ministers-bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir-are jointly working to sabotage the deal.
the Hebrew-language Channel 14 reported that the extremist ministers are exploring options to block the agreement, even if it means withdrawing from the governing coalition.
Israeli political journalist Dafna Liel stated that Ben-Gvir directly proposed to Smotrich that they form a united front against former U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed ceasefire plan.
“Israel’s Channel 12” also confirmed Ben-Gvir urged Smotrich to unite in defeating the prisoner exchange agreement.
Citing sources close to Smotrich, Hebrew media countered these claims, denying any contact from Ben-gvir and dismissing reports of their meeting as misinformation. The sources emphasized: “Victory in Gaza remains crucial, but prisoners’ lives matter-they shouldn’t be gambled with.”
“tonight there are two houses in Israel,”
criticized MK Miri Regev.
“Ben-Gvir’s house and Smotrich’s house… Where a child asks their father: ‘What did you do at work today?’ And hears back: ‘Today I destroyed an agreement for prisoners’ return-leaving them abandoned.'”
