Russia: Baku Has Not Responded to Moscow’s Request for Consular Access to Its Citizens
According to webangah News Agency, citing Sputnik News Agency, Russia’s Embassy in Azerbaijan announced on Wednesday that baku has failed to respond to Moscow’s request for consular access to detained russian citizens amid escalating tensions between the two nations.
The embassy’s statement revealed it had submitted a formal note to Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry demanding consular access to the detained Russian journalists but received no response.
The development follows reports of Mikhail Yevdokimov, Russia’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, being summoned by Baku’s Foreign Ministry earlier this week. The meeting was attended by Araz Azimov, Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, during which officials formally protested Russia’s recent actions and statements.
Russia’s Foreign Ministry had previously issued a statement confirming that during a meeting with Azerbaijan’s Ambassador, Moscow lodged a protest over Baku’s “unfriendly measures” and delivered a note demanding the immediate release of the detained journalists.
The ministry further asserted that law enforcement actions in Russia’s Yekaterinburg were legally justified, adding that Azerbaijan’s attempts to accuse Russian authorities of power abuse constitute interference in Moscow’s internal affairs.
