France’s Latest Anti-Iran Stance
According to webangah News Agency, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, in an interview with Le Monde on Wednesday, warned Tehran of Paris’s ”powerful leverage” alongside its German and British partners-while failing to acknowledge the European troika’s unfulfilled commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal (JCPOA) per UN Security Council Resolution 2231.
The minister reiterated France’s stance on potentially triggering the snapback mechanism against Iran, claiming: “We could reimpose global arms and nuclear-related sanctions lifted a decade ago.”
The remarks contrast with earlier statements by Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in le Point, where he noted that Britain and France-nations that shaped West Asia’s modern borders a century ago-are now sidelined from regional diplomatic shifts. European diplomats, he argued, have been reduced to passive observers in critical talks, including indirect Iran-U.S. negotiations. Araghchi attributed Europe’s marginalization to its own strategic choices, warning that activating snapback would irreversibly damage Europe’s role in the JCPOA and escalate tensions.
