Pentagon Refutes Trump’s Claim: Ukraine Military Aid Was $66 Billion, Not $200 Billion
According to a report by webangah News Agency, citing the U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon), officials stated on Wednesday: “Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began in early 2022, we’ve provided approximately $6.6 billion in military assistance to Kyiv.”
A Pentagon spokesperson clarified: “The majority of this aid consists of equipment and materials drawn from existing U.S. presidential drawdown authority stockpiles.”
The official further explained: “Some previously allocated aid packages for Ukraine and other countries have been temporarily paused as we reassess our domestic production capacities.”
The White House may face critically important constraints in providing military aid to other countries during the current assistance review process, according to reports.
The New York Times, citing several U.S. Defense Department officials, reported that President Trump could halt all or part of the pending arms shipments to Ukraine following internal reviews.
Politico, quoting sources, stated that Ukraine is preparing a formal request from Washington to allow european countries to purchase American weapons for Kyiv. “European governments are reportedly considering allocating portions of their defense budgets to buy U.S.-made arms before transferring them to ukraine,” the outlet added.
The report emphasized that this proposed mechanism would require explicit U.S. approval under existing arms export regulations.
the funds will be allocated to Ukraine as part of NATO members’ new defense commitments.
These developments come hours after the Financial Times reported that Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry summoned a U.S. Embassy official in Kyiv to discuss continued military aid and the level of defense cooperation with the United States.
