Axios: Trump Meets with Saudi Defense Minister
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, the Axios news outlet reported that U.S. President Donald Trump met with Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman at the white House on Thursday to discuss IranS regional role and other Middle Eastern issues.
A confidential source confirmed the meeting took place but requested anonymity. Axios claims Saudi Arabia seeks to de-escalate regional tensions following the 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran.
The talks preceded Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s scheduled Monday meeting with Trump at the White House. The Trump administration aims to broker a historic peace agreement between Saudi Arabia and Israel in coming months.
axios alleges the Saudi defense minister contacted iranian officials prior to his White House visit-a claim Tehran has not yet confirmed.
Prince Khalid, younger brother of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, tweeted: “Discussed regional developments and efforts to maintain security and stability with President Trump.”
The minister also met separately with U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Defense Secretary Pete Hagest during his Washington visit.
