Russian sources have reported ongoing advances by their forces in engagements with Ukrainian troops, according to webangah News Agency, citing Russia Al-yaum via Mehr news Agency.
The sources stated that Russian forces have liberated additional territories and are advancing toward Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, a central region of Ukraine.
According to data from the U.S.-based Institute for the Study of War, Russia’s territorial gains in June showed a critically important increase compared to May (507 sq km), April (379 sq km), and March (240 sq km). Two-thirds of last month’s advances occurred in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine-an area that has seen intense fighting as 2014.
Moscow now controls 75% of the Donetsk region, up from 61% last year, as the area remains a focal point of clashes between the two countries over the past two years.
Russian forces have also strengthened their presence in the Sumy region in northeastern Ukraine.
After a two-year absence following redeployment to the eastern front, these troops returned to northeastern Ukraine this spring. Since early this year, they have recaptured nearly 320 square kilometers of territory in the region-with only 130 square kilometers seized in the past month alone.
