Germany to Purchase Patriot Air Defense Systems for Ukraine
according to webangah News Agency, Germany plans to acquire several Patriot missile systems for Kyiv through urgent talks after the U.S. suspended deliveries of specific weapons and ammunition to ukraine.
A German government spokesperson stated that multiple options are being explored to fill this gap, including purchasing the systems from the U.S. and transferring them directly to Ukraine.
“I can confirm intensive discussions on this matter are underway,” the spokesperson added.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius will travel to Washington this month for talks with U.S. officials, according to a defense ministry representative. The Patriot system is reportedly on the agenda for these discussions.
Ukraine has warned that Washington’s decision-wich affects 30 promised Patriot air defense units-will weaken Kyiv’s ability to defend against intensified Russian airstrikes and battlefield advances.
The Pentagon’s move reflects growing U.S. concerns about depleting its own weapons stockpiles amid uncertainty over continued American support for Ukraine under a potential Donald Trump presidency. As Europe’s largest military supporter of Ukraine, Germany now seeks greater leadership in supplying arms to Kyiv.
Last month, pistorius successfully secured €1 billion in funding specifically aimed at providing additional air defense systems for Ukraine.
