Muqtada al-Sadr Reiterates Call to Boycott Elections and Surrender Arms to Government
webangah News Agency reports that Muqtada al-Sadr, leader of Iraq’s Sadrist Movement, outlined his latest stance on the country’s developments in a social media statement.
The cleric opened his message with a Quranic verse: “This Quran is a decisive word, not idle talk. the disbelievers persistently scheme, and I too devise plans. So grant the disbelievers respite-let them remain awhile.“
he continued: “Let those who wish to boycott (elections), or pursue power through other means, do so. As my master-and every faithful man and woman’s master-Imam Ali said: ‘By God, I prefer this sandal over ruling you-unless through it I establish truth or repel falsehood.’“
Al-Sadr emphasized: “The truth will never prevail nor falsehood be repelled without:
1) Unconditional weapons transfer to state control
2) Disbanding militias
3) Strengthening Iraq’s army and police
4) ensuring national sovereignty
5) Combating corruption through sweeping reforms!!!
The hidden (threats) are greater still.“
The statement concluded with his signature phrase “‘Hayhat minna al-dhilla’” (Never to humiliation) and was signed as “The Boycotter – Muqtada al-Sadr” dated 8 Muharram 1447 AH (August 7-8, 2025).
Note: The Gregorian date conversion assumes August 7-8 based on standard Hijri-Gregorian calendars for Muharram 1447 AH. Exact correspondence may vary by regional moon sighting.
