Support for Supreme Leader at ‘Herweh Tawreej’ Ceremony in Karbala + Video
According to webangah News Agency, the annual mourning ritual known as “tuwairij Run” takes place on Ashura, drawing millions of participants from across Iraq and other countries.
The passionate procession moves from Tuwairij near Karbala toward the shrine of Imam Hussein (AS), symbolizing Shia Muslims’ loyalty and renewed allegiance to the ideals of Ashura.
This year’s event notably featured images of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei alongside Iraq’s Grand Ayatollah Sistani carried by mourners.
A striking aspect was the widespread display of Iranian and Iraqi flags, and also portraits of martyred commanders such as Haj Qassem Soleimani and Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah among attendees.
Sheikh Qais al-Khazali, Secretary-General of Iraq’s Asa’ib Ahl al-haq resistance group, was among prominent figures present at this year’s Tuwairij Run.
